JONAH — The Orthodox Life

Orthodox Life Coaching

There is a Way.

Ancient Wisdom for the Modern Struggle.

You do not need another self-help system.

You do not need another motivational quote.

You do not need another promise that you can create the life you want.

Sometimes the way forward begins by admitting that you cannot save yourself.

JONAH explores the ancient Christian path of prayer, repentance, discipline and communion with the Living God—helping us face the thoughts, passions and struggles of modern life.

The Modern Struggle

We have more answers than ever.
So why are we still lost?

We are constantly told to

  • Think positively.
  • Believe in yourself.
  • Manifest your future.
  • Follow your desires.
  • Become whoever you want to be.

But

  • What happens when your thoughts are destructive?
  • What happens when your desires lead you somewhere you do not want to go?
  • What happens when you cannot simply think positively about your suffering?
  • What happens when the person you are trying to become is built around an illusion?

The ancient Christian tradition begins somewhere very different.
It begins with honesty.

The Central Truth

You are not your own saviour.

That may sound like bad news.

It may actually be the beginning of freedom.

We were not created to become autonomous gods, controlling our lives and manipulating reality to get everything we want. We were created for communion with God.

The Christian life is not passive. It is a co-working.

Grace and effort. Prayer and action. Repentance and transformation.

There is no magic formula.

There is a Way.

The Way

From belief to practice.

Prayer

Learning to become attentive to God.

Repentance

Not shame or self-hatred, but the courage to turn around.

Watchfulness

Learning to recognise and confront destructive thoughts.

The Passions

Understanding the things that pull us away from freedom.

Fasting

Learning that we do not have to obey every desire.

Discipline

Building a life ordered towards what is good.

Community

Learning that we were never meant to walk alone.

Orthodoxy is not simply something to believe. It is a Way to be lived.

My Story

I knew how to help other people.
I didn’t know how to save myself.

For thirteen years, I served as a Protestant School Chaplain.

I studied Theology. I had the intellectual answers.

I was expected to be strong. Strong for pupils. Strong for families. Strong for colleagues. Strong for everyone else.

But behind the image was another struggle.

Anger. Lust. Destructive thoughts. Addictions.

The pressure to appear strong created a growing divide between the person others saw and the person I actually was.

Then I lost my job. I lost my home.

And eventually, I found myself in what felt like:

The dark belly of the beast.

That is where the story of Jonah became my story.

The depths are not the end of the story.

There can be repentance.

There can be healing.

There can be a return.

There can be new life.

You don’t have to have it all figured out.

You simply need to be willing to begin honestly.
